Paulding Lights Upper Michigans Unexplainable Phenomenon

This past weekend my daughter and I went in search of fall colors.  Which meant a road trip.  Darn, I dislike road trips 🙂  A friend told us while on our road trip to check out Paulding Lights Upper Michigans Unexplainable Phenomenon.

In Search of Fall Colors

In our area, we are behind for the season in the fall color department.  Normally, we would have been seeing some orange and red coloring in Green Bay and the surrounding counties. This year, we are not. We are late. Temps have been pretty warm which is why we are lacking the coloring.  With the heavy winds we have been having, I am afraid most of the trees will turn yellow and then drop their leaves with the wind.

The Northwoods Wisconsin Calls

My daughter and I hit the road and traveled to the “North Woods” of Wisconsin.  We traveled through Antigo, Monaco, Rhinelander, Eagle River, and Land o Lakes.

As we traveled toward Michigan’s upper peninsula we were getting closer to the orange and red coloring I was seeking.  The night was setting in as we were traveling through the Ottawa National Forest, so we decided Watersmeet, Michigan would be our stop over for the night.

Casinos Are Always Good Choices For Spending the Night

We checked into the Lac Vieux Desert Resort Casino on U.S. 45, Watersmeet, MI. While waiting for our dinner to arrive in the lounge and listening to live music, we texted to check in with our other family members back at home.  My husband was out to dinner with one of our friends, Boomer and they quickly responded that we go and see “The Paulding Lights” while in the area.

Stories & Theories Around the Paulding Lights

There are plenty of stories, thoughts and the theories that surround the mysterious lights. Although stories of the light vary, the most popular legend involves the death of a railroad brakeman. The legend states that the valley once contained railroad tracks and the light is the lantern of the brakeman who was killed while attempting to stop an oncoming train from colliding with railway cars stopped on the tracks. Another story claims the light is the ghost of a slain mail courier, while another says that it is the ghost of an Indian dancing on the power lines that run through the valley.

The Paulding Lights Have Been Featured on Many Television Shows

The Paulding Lights have been televised on the SyFy television show Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files. The investigators were depicted trying several experiments in an unsuccessful attempt to recreate the light, including using car headlights from a north-south section of US 45 and a flyover by an airplane with a spotlight. According to SyFy.com, “After conducting an EVP session, they finally decide that the phenomenon is unexplainable.”
