Liquid Hand Soap Recipe

Liquid Hand Soap Recipe - If your household is like ours, we go through plenty of hand soap. The pump dispensers are the way to go. Before making my own we could go through a few bottles a month. Since I was purchasing mine at a dollar type store, it wasn’t a huge cost to us. Who thinks spending $2.00 – $3.00 ($25-$30 a year) on soap is a large cost. Turns out, you don’t even have to spend that. About four dollars is really all it takes.

Here is liquid hand soap recipe that I have tried and I love it.  I have used it in true form by pouring it into a pump dispenser straight.  I have also played around mixing additional water once it is in the pump.

If your household is like ours, we go through plenty of hand soap.

I figured out the cost and decided to give it a whirl to place in one of my mason jar soap dispensers.  I really do like the straight from the bottle recipe. It is thicker.

Materials:
1 gallon of distilled water

1 Large stock pot
1 Bar of your favorite soap I’ve used Castile. Mrs. Meyers & Ivory
Cheese Grater
Wooden Spoon
Soap bottle and pump

Directions:
1.) Freeze your bar of soap for a few hours before you wish to start your liquid soap process. Freezes the bar of soap will make it easier to grate.  Any bar soap will generally work but just incase I’m incorrect, Castile, Mrs. Meyers and Ivory are excellent places to start..

2.) When you are ready to start your liquid soap process remove soap bar from freezer.  Add 1 gallon of water to a large stock pot.  Boil water over med-high heat.

3.)  While water is heating, grate the soap into a bowl.  When the large stock pot filled with 1 gallon of water boils add grated soap to water.  Stir until melted and mixture is completely dissolved.

4.) Let the mixture set overnight.  In morning pour back into the distilled water jug for storage.

To Make a Watered Down Version
1.) Place 1-1/2 Tablespoons of liquid soap into a pump dispenser.
2.) Fill remaining portion with water.
3.) Shake well.

The watered down version is what I basically have done when we got to the last bit of soap in the purchased bottles.  It works well enough.  Although, my kids know immediately what I have done.  They like it when I use the soap straight and only add about 20% extra water.

The thickness of this liquid hand soap recipe is a matter of taste.  Play around with the water to soap ratio for your own liking.  Use either a straight pump dispenser or a foaming dispenser.
