Hot Buttered Rum Apple Cider
Last year, when we stopped off at a little bar and grill in Upper Michigan, I recall seeing a hot drink menu. Hot Buttered Rum Apple Cider was a drink on the menu.
I remember taking a picture of the menu to try and recreate the drinks myself, although the picture has disappeared.
We have a friend that we enjoy visiting in the country. Actually, the grounds we visit are the “guys” hunting grounds. They have a bunkhouse with 6 bunks, a full bar set-up, an x-tra large fire pit area, bathroom and running water. What else could you want?
In the off season, the grounds play host to plenty of additional activities. We all make a point of getting together to blow off steam a few weekends a year. Most of the activities are held in summer and early fall, but we also get together at least one weekend during the winter months as well.
Which brings me to that drink menu. Everyone brings items to eat and drink. Since we enjoy sitting around the fire while the fresh snow is falling upon us, I wanted to make one or two of the drinks of that menu.
Came up empty handed. After looking through my recipe files, I came upon two drink recipes that my husband’s grandma had given me. Guess what we are having? I found a hot drink.
Hot Buttered Apple Cider
4 oz apple cider or apple juice, heated
1 oz white rum
1 pat butter
Cinnamon stick or ground cinnamon
Combine hot cider and rum in mug. Add pat of butter. Serve with cinnamon stick or add a dash of cinnamon.
This recipe was perfectly paired with my hot apple cider recipe. The recipe uses my coffee pot and is always welcomed by our teens. For this outing I decided that I’d bring enough supplies to make a triple batch of my coffee pot cider. The adults could decide to enjoy their drink spiked or unspiked. Find my YouTube RECIPE HERE.
As always, food, friends, fire and beverages; the perfect way to spend a weekend.
