SS Arthur M Anderson

SS Arthur M Anderson

Pictured is the SS Arthur M Anderson, it is a Great Lakes cargo ship that has much of its service work done in my home town of Sturgeon Bay, WI. If you are a history buff you might remember this cargo ships name.

Arthur M Anderson Freighter - Pictured is the SS Arthur M. Anderson that is currently in for repairs at Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin at Bay Ship. The Arthur Anderson was the last ship to have to be in contact with the SS Edmund Fitzgerald in a Lake Superior during a storm before it sank on November 10, 1975. Arthur M Anderson was also the first rescue ship on the scene in a vain search for Edmund Fitzgerald survivors (there were none).

Ships Docked in Sturgeon Bay

Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin is where plenty of Great Lakes freighters are laid up for repairs during the winter.

Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay Watching The Freighters - in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. The freighters are docked for repair work at Bayship building. The massive ship carries bulk cargoes of materials such as limestone, iron ore, grain, coal or salt from the mines and fields to the populous industrial areas down the lakes.

Location To Get a Closer Look
To get a closer look at the ships there is a spot on the old train bridge where you can walk out and sit along the bay.  The easiest way to get to this location is to locate Sonny’s Pizza at 129 N Madison Ave, just before the steel bridge.

Park in the museum parking lot across the street from Sonny’s and then walk to Sonny’s.  To the left of Sonny’s pizza is a walking path that leads out to the old train bridge.

When Returning To Your Car
When you walk back to your car be sure to walk along the water in front of the museum too.  You can get views of both 1929 steel bridge, tugboats and Fred A Busse Chicago Fireboat.
