Today is one day that my husband looks forward to, picking up the Spyder from the hunting grounds shed. I was driving with him to the grounds and driving back his truck, bring Scout he said so you have someone to ride back with. Oh, that was an excellent idea!
You Know Scout, Right?
Scout is our labrador retriever and he goes by many names; Scouty Rowdy Pumpkin Pie, Scouty Rowdy, Rowdy or any variation of those names. The dog is a dopey, lovable beast, that makes appearances on my Instagram account and in blog posts at times.
It’s All About Him
It was my hope that I would be able to get sandhill cranes, ducks, and geese in flight pictures. Well,, that didn’t happen! Today was all about Scout. He obviously has some pent up energy to get out of his system, or maybe, like me; he was just happy to see most of the snow melting and to get outdoors to enjoy the beautiful weather.
I quickly learned that I seemed to be following his lead.
We explored the farm fields and he searched along the edge of the woods for birds. However, he was so far ahead of me and I had to keep calling him back.
I grabbed a chair and decided I was going to try and sit in the field and have him sit next to me. He was happy running up and down the mowed path to the field.
Scout was content until he found his first water hole, the field has a ditch with drainage tubes. Oh, this isn’t going to end well. I can see it now!
Scout ran ahead, through the cedars and fruit trees, he kicked up all my birds but of course; I was lagging far behind.
Time To Sit and Wait
I sat my chair at the end of the cedar tree row waiting for the birds to fly through the fields.
The scrub in the area makes a beautiful backdrop but the darn dog ended up stealing the show.
What a Ham!
How could you not sit back and watch the Scout show, he went on like this for almost 30 minutes. It was much more entertaining than waiting and hoping for birds to land.
He Had Fun
He had a blast, and at the end of the day, that is all that matters.
Time to head back home and get us both cleaned up! I’m muddy from all the shaking off he did.
Scout says “Thanks for reading!” See you back here next week!
