Oppressively Somber Abandon Old Creepy House

Oppressively Somber

What once was a strong and sturdy shell has become oppressively somber standing among the overgrown thicket outside her front door.

For many years she remained strong and sturdy, able to withstand anything thrown at her. Until one-day things become too difficult. The weight of the world came crashing down and rendered her useless.

Even in her darkest hours, you can still see her strength and beauty she possesses.

Old Brick Building in Oconto County

An old brick building in Oconto County, WI. I believe this building was once used as the general store in a country area. Now, it is covered with rich, green ivy.

The advantage about traveling the backroads to get to additional UTV trails is that you get to see plenty of old gems.

Inside the Old Cabins Smoky Mountain National Park

Inside the Old Cabins Smoky Mountain National Park – We ventured out into the heavy wooded areas of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park trying to locate the old section of cabins on this visit.  Our first attempt was unsuccessful.

We stopped at a local country shop and the gentleman there knew exactly what I was wanting to see and drew us a map.

The cabins were to be met the wrecking ball the following week. With the help of the gentleman’s directions, were successful.

The heavy rains didn’t stop us, but the trees and rain took out our umbrella and we were a muddy mess when everything was said and done.

Obsession With The Rust

Obsession with the Rust - Old Rusty Farm Equipment Photography

Obsession With The Rust

Do you have an obsession with something? For me, I have an obsession with rust – something old, something rusty, something with history and a story. I find myself drawn to items that you can look at or picked up and imagine a person using. What was life like back at the time this item was used? What challenges did the people face?

I focus on how time changes items and the steps the world has maybe made for the better, or for the worse. Depending on how one looks at the item.

Any clue what this is?

CLUE: Farming has always been a large part of Wisconsin’s history.
ANSWER: Manure spreader.

Life’s up and downs provide windows of opportunity to determine your values and goals. Think of using all obstacles as stepping stones to build the life you want.

–Marsha Sinetar

The things you go through in life, they make you.  They shape every fiber of your being.   Today, things have settled down. When I look back, I see why I have a greater appreciation for wildlife and nature. Neither ask anything of me, or judge. Peace and quiet.  Centered by nature.  A place I can breathe.

See America

See America Old Travel Bus Photography Print

See America

Traveling the country roads from one state park to another on a recent trip to Tennessee, we came upon a bus graveyard.

I could see many of the buses from the roadway and the grounds have clearly marked no trespassing. There was one place that really caught my attention, the see America bus.

We pulled over and I shot this from the road. The perfect message right here. You can see small pieces of America, one road trip at a time. For myself, life is all about adventure and I am just along for the ride.

Mill in Cades Cove Tennessee Smoky Mountains National Park

Cades Cove is an isolated valley located in the Tennessee section of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

The cove holds some historical buildings and an excellent place for wildlife viewing.

We went during early spring to get a jump start ahead of the crowds and tried to dodge in-between the rains to explore.

The SS Calumet freighter is in the bulk freighter class. Bulk freighters carry unpackaged bulk cargo like grain, coal, cement, and ore.

The Calumet has an interesting past.  It was sold three times and named four, since 1973.

The SS Calumet Freighter History

Name One

The SS Calumet was built in 1973 by the American Ship Building Company in Lorain, Ohio as the William R. Roesch for the Union Commerce Bank, Ohio, and managed by Kinsman Marine Transit.

Name Two
In 1994, she was transferred to Oglebay-Norton.  She was renamed David Z. Norton, after company founder David Zadock Norton on March 31, 1995.

Name Three
In 2006, Oglebay-Norton sold its fleet of River class ships to Grand River Navigation. The Norton was renamed David Z..

Name Four
The ship was sold to Rand Logistics in 2008, being renamed Calumet, after the original Calumet, built in 1929 for US Steel, which was scrapped in 2007.

I captured her at sunset on a warm summer night.  Just as she was pulling into the Port of Green Bay, Wisconsin to offload.

White Star Psychic Church Brussels Wisconsin

White Star Psychic Church Brussels Wisconsin

Today’s topic is going to be a little different.  Something I normally wouldn’t write about, nor would I endorse.  And, SOME may even call me a little crazy for exploring; The White Star Psychic Church Brussels Wisconsin. But life is about experiences. Sometimes, walking in someone else’s shoes helps to understand and relate to someone else. We need this in life.  Who knows, you may even gain knowledge, understanding, peace and even comfort in an unlikely place.  Like this church has done for me.

St Coletta Jefferson Wisconsin

One thing I absolutely love about traveling is that it provides me with a constant source of education.  Over the weekend, I attended The 4th Annual Spyder Rendezvous in Johnson Creek, Wisconsin with my husband.  Heavy rain prevented me from riding with the group on Friday.  I admit it, I’m a wimp and my dry car provided a comfortable alternative for the day’s travels. I spent some time exploring St Coletta Jefferson Wisconsin.

Old Farmhouse in Door County

Old Farmhouse in Door County

Last year, my daughter and I made a trip up to the hunting grounds in Southern Door County, Wisconsin to meet up with my husband and some friends of ours. The guys had obtained permission to hunt a deer herd that had become an issue on a piece of property with an old farmhouse in Door County.  The herd was liquidating the farmer’s crop fields and corn storage cribs.
