Our purple martins are gone for the season. The first week of September normally marks the its time to clean out the #purplemartin houses and cover the holes. See you next year feathered friends.

The tomato plants are growing well in the small portable greenhouse we purchased to hold them until ground planting. I cut a few of the healthy suckers off the bottom branches to try and water root and then plant for our daughter. Maybe by the time we our done being grounded to our homes- she might have healthy plants to plant herself. #garden #tomatoplant

American Copper Butterfly Goes by scientific name

American Copper Butterfly

Goes by scientific name Lycaena phlaeas, and also known by the small copper, American copper, or common copper.

The upperside forewings are a bright orange with a dark outside edge border and with eight or nine black spots. The hindwings are dark with an orange border. Some females also have a row of blue spots inside the orange border. The undersides are patterned in a similar way but are paler.

Widespread and common across Europe, Asia, North America, and also found in North Africa.

The #whitecrownedsparrow oh what a messy eater. Who me? YES, YOU! But, I still love 'em. .
They come by the truckloads in early #spring and knock all the #birdseed to the ground and deck, .
These birds normally forage on the ground or in low vegetation, but sometimes make short flights to catch flying insects. .
They mainly eat seeds, other plant parts and insects. .
In winter, and early spring they often forage in flocks. AND clean out every feeder I have available. #bitd #sparrow #backyardbirds #backyardbirding #messyeater #naturelovers #feedingmyflock

Geraniums can't last outdoors over the cold winter

Geraniums can't last outdoors over the cold winters here. I remove them from the soil. Cut the leaves off and place them in a brown paper bag in my basement. In Late winter, generally February I place them in Mason jars of water in a bright, sunny window and watch them regrow. I will change out water every few days until I replant them in soil. Around Mothers Day. Saves me money without killing my back hauling in plants. #plants #gardeningideas #gardening #geranium #green #spring
