Exploring Lake of the Falls County Park
The Turtle River flows through the park creating small rapids and cascades among the rocky shoreline. While these are often referred to as waterfalls, they are more accurately gentle river cascades where the water moves through rock channels and small drops.
The shoreline is fun to explore. Frogs often hide among the rocks, and wildflowers grow along the riverbanks during the warmer months. Many visitors simply sit along the rocks watching the foaming water flow around the edges of the river.
Fishing is also popular here. We were catching a variety of panfish from the shoreline and fishing dock. Local anglers told us northern pike, muskies, and other panfish are common in this area of the river and nearby lakes.
