Gathering Nature’s Treasures: Wild Violets

Wild violets (Viola papilionacea) paint the landscape in shades of deep purple and soft bluish-purple, popping up along woodland edges, scrubby areas, or even urban lawns. I’m lucky to have a patch growing along my home, perfect for crafting wild violet jelly or these lovely bath salts. If you don’t have wild violets nearby, dried flowers from a trusted source work just as well—and they’re often available online ([Amazon link to dried violets]). Foraging is free and fun, but always ensure you’re picking from safe, pesticide-free areas

Materials

Directions

1.  Prepare the Violets: Gently remove stems from fresh wild violets. If using dried flowers, ensure they’re clean and ready to use.

2.  Blend the Mixture: In a blender, pulse ¾ cup wild violets, ½ cup sea salt, and ¼ cup Himalayan pink salt until you achieve a fine, even texture. The mixture will take on a lovely pale pinky-purple hue.

3.  Add the Scent: Add a few drops of lavender essential oil, blend gently, and sniff. Keep adding drops until the scent is just right for you—soft, soothing, and floral.

4.  Dry the Salts: Spread the mixture evenly on a parchment-lined cookie sheet and let it dry overnight to lock in the scent and texture.

5.  Store Your Creation: Transfer the dried bath salts into two 4 oz jars or tins, seal tightly, and store in a cool, dry cupboard.
