Enger Park in Duluth, Minnesota

Enger Park is one of the best free scenic stops in Duluth. Set high above the city, the park combines walking paths, a historic stone tower, gardens, and wide views over Duluth, Lake Superior, and the Twin Ports.

If you are looking for an easy place to stretch your legs and take in a broader view of the city, Enger Park is well worth adding to a Duluth visit. It is one of those stops that works for a quick visit, but it also has enough trails, overlooks, and gardens to justify a longer wander.

Copper Culture State Park

Copper Culture State Park in Oconto, Wisconsin is a small but historically important state park along the Oconto River. The 42-acre park includes a short trail system, picnic areas, river views, and the Copper Culture Museum, which interprets one of Wisconsin’s most significant archaeological sites.

Spearfish Canyon and Pactola Lake

Spearfish Canyon and Pactola Lake were two stops I had quietly been looking forward to all trip. Spearfish Canyon meant waterfalls, and waterfalls nearly always pull me in. I was also excited to try out my newer filter system and hoped for one of those days where the light, water, and scenery all came together.

Butler Rock

Butler Rock near Brazeau, Wisconsin is a quiet hiking stop in Oconto County with a rocky summit, wooded trail, and broad views over the surrounding landscape. While Wisconsin is not known for mountains, places like Butler Rock offer a nice way to get a little elevation, stretch your legs, and enjoy a scenic overlook in northeastern Wisconsin.

We found Butler Rock while out exploring by ATV and were glad we did. The trail is short enough for a simple outing, but the exposed rock, forest setting, and overlook make it feel like more of an adventure than you might expect.
