Onion Soup Mix – Dry Mix Recipe
I am not sure how much I spent on a popular, name brand onion soup over the years. Until, I was given this recipe from a friend.
I was excited to purchase the ingredients to try the mix for myself. Thankfully, I did. The recipe makes 2 cups of mix or the equivalent of 8 envelopes at a 1/3 of the cost of the name brand mix.
Ingredients:
7 oz beef bouillon granules
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1-1/2 cups of dry minced onion
1/4 cup onion powder
2 teaspoons ground celery seed
1/8 cup onion salt
4 Tablespoons of Red Star Nutritional yeast
1/4 c instant unsweetened tea powder
1/4 cup dry parsley flakes
1 Tablespoon sugar
Directions:
1.) Combine all ingredients in a large plastic container with a cover and shake to mix.
2.) Store covered.
To Use:
1.) For Soup – Measure out 1/4 cup of the mix and add it to 4 cups of boiling water. Stir the powder into the water until it is dissolved.
2.) For Dip – Measure to taste. If you like a light onion taste, use 5 tablespoons of mix. Like a heavier onion taste measure out up to 1/4 cup of mix and stir it into 1 pint of sour cream.
3.) Use as a Rub – Rub roasts down with the mixture and cook in the oven or in a crockpot.
Above recipe makes (8) 1/4-cup portions (8 envelopes ).
