A Little History on the Lighthouse
The Baileys Harbor Birdcage style lighthouse was the third lighthouse built in Door County, Wisconsin.
The lighthouse started construction in 1852 and was first lit in 1853. It is one of the most unique lighthouses built, being one of four lighthouses in the country to have retained its bird-cage lantern.
Privately Owned Island
The lighthouse is now a privately owned island that is popular for people to kayak around during the summer months and the lighthouse and island are enjoyed as a summer home by the private landowners.
