The park is divided in two by the Eau Claire River. The river flows through a rocky gorge to form cascades and waterfalls as it passes over and around weathered boulders, outcrops, and other formations.
I used caution when traversing the rocks. They are pretty darn slick in spots. Even, when they are not wet. Maybe because they are so smooth. Normally rocks have a gritty texture. These do not.
The water that flows between the rocks is moving pretty quickly. I took picture above using a slow shutter to show the movement of the water. That is what gives it the blurred effect.
The park also has areas designated for camping, swimming, hiking, and picnicking. Download the County Park Map.
There are all kinds of places to stop off and see flora, frogs and pools of water along the rocky banks.
The dam is beautiful and located along one of the hiking trails that it a little further down from where most people venture in the park.
Hope you enjoyed the tour. Fall colors will be upon us soon. Dells of the Eau Claire County Park might be the perfect place for you to pack a picnic and head out to hike a few trails.
