Oppressively Somber

Oppressively Somber Abandon Old Creepy House

Oppressively Somber

What once was a strong and sturdy shell has become oppressively somber standing among the overgrown thicket outside her front door.

For many years she remained strong and sturdy, able to withstand anything thrown at her. Until one-day things become too difficult. The weight of the world came crashing down and rendered her useless.

Even in her darkest hours, you can still see her strength and beauty she possesses.

Old Brick Building in Oconto County

An old brick building in Oconto County, WI. I believe this building was once used as the general store in a country area. Now, it is covered with rich, green ivy.

The advantage about traveling the backroads to get to additional UTV trails is that you get to see plenty of old gems.

Inside the Old Cabins Smoky Mountain National Park

Inside the Old Cabins Smoky Mountain National Park – We ventured out into the heavy wooded areas of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park trying to locate the old section of cabins on this visit.  Our first attempt was unsuccessful.

We stopped at a local country shop and the gentleman there knew exactly what I was wanting to see and drew us a map.

The cabins were to be met the wrecking ball the following week. With the help of the gentleman’s directions, were successful.

The heavy rains didn’t stop us, but the trees and rain took out our umbrella and we were a muddy mess when everything was said and done.

Life’s up and downs provide windows of opportunity to determine your values and goals. Think of using all obstacles as stepping stones to build the life you want.

–Marsha Sinetar

The things you go through in life, they make you.  They shape every fiber of your being.   Today, things have settled down. When I look back, I see why I have a greater appreciation for wildlife and nature. Neither ask anything of me, or judge. Peace and quiet.  Centered by nature.  A place I can breathe.

Mill in Cades Cove Tennessee Smoky Mountains National Park

Cades Cove is an isolated valley located in the Tennessee section of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

The cove holds some historical buildings and an excellent place for wildlife viewing.

We went during early spring to get a jump start ahead of the crowds and tried to dodge in-between the rains to explore.

White Star Psychic Church Brussels Wisconsin

White Star Psychic Church Brussels Wisconsin

Today’s topic is going to be a little different.  Something I normally wouldn’t write about, nor would I endorse.  And, SOME may even call me a little crazy for exploring; The White Star Psychic Church Brussels Wisconsin. But life is about experiences. Sometimes, walking in someone else’s shoes helps to understand and relate to someone else. We need this in life.  Who knows, you may even gain knowledge, understanding, peace and even comfort in an unlikely place.  Like this church has done for me.

St Coletta Jefferson Wisconsin

One thing I absolutely love about traveling is that it provides me with a constant source of education.  Over the weekend, I attended The 4th Annual Spyder Rendezvous in Johnson Creek, Wisconsin with my husband.  Heavy rain prevented me from riding with the group on Friday.  I admit it, I’m a wimp and my dry car provided a comfortable alternative for the day’s travels. I spent some time exploring St Coletta Jefferson Wisconsin.

Old Farmhouse in Door County

Old Farmhouse in Door County

Last year, my daughter and I made a trip up to the hunting grounds in Southern Door County, Wisconsin to meet up with my husband and some friends of ours. The guys had obtained permission to hunt a deer herd that had become an issue on a piece of property with an old farmhouse in Door County.  The herd was liquidating the farmer’s crop fields and corn storage cribs.

The Red Barn Made Me Do It

The Red Barn Made Me Do It

No Officer – The Barn Made Me

I pulled off on the side of a county road to take a picture of this barn in Brown County, WI. The red barn stuck out beautiful against the snow.

As I was grabbing my camera out of the back of my car an officer stopped and asked if I needed help. It was a nice gesture.

Why Were Barns Painted Red?

He asked me if I knew why most barns were painted red. I did, but really wanted to hear his version. Pretty much the same as I had heard.

Barns were painted by using linseed oil long ago. That gave them a reddish orange look. Some farmers added rust to the linseed oil because it helped to kill algae and prevent it from growing on their structures.

Honey House in Door County

Advintageous flair collection

Honey House in Door County
The roads less traveled are off the beaten path; and for me, they give me a chance to bypass the hustle and bustle of traffic, slow down and really look for “hidden” treasures. One of these treasure happen to be a honey house in Door County.
